From the Grand Knight

 August 2009

Dear Brothers,

We begin this new Columbian Year on a high note.  I want to thank Past Grand Knight George Winkler for a tremendous Columbian Year.  We earned our first Circle of Honor Award from the NYS Council, we increase membership with 12 new members, and remodeled the Hall to name a few.  Our Squire Circle increased by more than double, earning them an award from the State Squire Circle for the greatest percentage increase in the 2008-2009 Columbian Year.  This is due to the efforts of PGK Kevin Gorman, Outside Guard John Casella, and PGK George Winkler who help solicit candidates from the CCD classes. They all deserve congratulations and thanks for a job well done.  I would like to thank all of you who supported George during his term as Grand Knight.  Now you have given me the honor of being Grand Knight and I want to continue the momentum in this Columbian Year and I know you will support me as you have George.

This year we started off with the 4th of July parade which was a great success.  We had the Cardinal Mercier Assembly Honor Guard leading off our contingent of the parade followed by the Brothers from our Council and Bellmore Council, the Squires, groups from St. Frances de Chantal Church such as the Social Ministry, Life Ministry, and the Young Vincentian including our Pastor, Fr. Greg Cappuccino, and our Brother Tim Jacard and the AMT Children of Hope Foundation.  It was a significant showing of Catholic solidarity and I am thankful to all those that participated. Both the Life Ministry and AMT Children of Hope Foundation won parade awards.  Special thanks go to PGK Kevin Gorman for arranging breakfast at the hall and to GK Jim Mikowski and Bellmore Council for helping and sharing the cost of the hot dog lunch after the parade.  Also, thanks to the Cardinal Mercier Assembly for providing the American Flags that were raffled at the lunch.

The next event is the VBS lunches August 7th & 14th followed by the Officer’s Installation on Sept. 12th and the Senior Picnic on Sept. 19th.

In closing I want to congratulate Past Nassau Chapter President and Past Grand Knight Ed Ciulla for being the first from our Council to have a position on the NYS Council as Media Specialist.

Vivat Jesu,

Peter Coleman
